Installing the VPN:

For staff and students located externally to access the AIE network resources on their issued computer, or home computer.

Student Approval required

Please note, Students by default do NOT have access to the VPN, and must be a member of the "Student VPN users" AD group - Approval to add to this group is required.



  1. Open a web browser (such as Firefox, Chrome etc) and enter the following address:

    1. https://aus.vpn.aie.edu/ (For Australian Staff)
    2. https://sea.vpn.aie.edu/ (For Seattle Staff) *See Below Info 
    3. https://lft.vpn.aie.edu/ (For Lafayette Staff)

  2. You will be presented with a Sophos User portal, enter your AIE username and password, along with the characters showing in the Captcha:



  3. Once you have successfully logged in, you will see some options Under Sophos Connect Client
  4. Home use Personal PCs: 
    • Under Sophos Connect Client select "Download for Windows", then install the client (or MacOS if you use that)
    • Also download the configuration file underneath "SSL VPN configuration"
  5. AIE Issued Laptops:
    • Download the configuration file underneath "SSL VPN configuration"
    • Open the "Company Portal" from the Windows Start Menu, search for "Sophos" and install the VPN Client from there.
  6. AIE Issued Desktop PCs:
    • Download the configuration file underneath "SSL VPN configuration"
    • Call I.T to install the Sophos VPN client for you
      • The VPN isn't available via Software Center as it wouldn't work if the PC was already taken offsite and didn't have the VPN already setup.
  7. After installing the VPN Client, go to your downloads folder
  8. Open the configuration file we downloaded earlier, this will add AIE's VPN connection to the client.

Connecting the VPN:

The VPN software will use your internet connection to make a tunnel to the AIE’s computer network, allowing your computer to see the network as it usually does in the office. The Speed of the VPN will be dependant on your internet connection speed.

  1. Locate the Sophos Connect icon in the task Tray in the bottom right of your screen:


  2. Double click on the Sophos Connect icon and then 'Connect'


  3. Sign in with your AIE username and password and tick 'Save username and password'
          
    The VPN is now connected.

Disconnecting the VPN:

  1. Locate the Sophos Connect icon in the task Tray in the bottom right of your screen:


  2. Double click on the Sophos Connect icon and then 'Disconnect', You may now close the application.

    Seattle VPN

    In Seattle there are two VPN endpoints:

    • Harrison Street (Main Campus)
    • Mercer Street (Fame/Freedom Access)   Decommissioned
