Installing the VPN:

For staff and students located externally to access the AIE network resources on their issued computer, or home computer.

Student Approval required

Please note, Students by default do NOT have access to the VPN, and must be a member of the "Student VPN users" AD group - Approval to add to this group is required.



  1. Open a web browser (such as Firefox, Chrome etc) and enter the following address:

    1. https://aus.vpn.aie.edu/ (For Australian Staff)
    2. https://sea.vpn.aie.edu/ (For Seattle Staff) *See Below Info 
    3. https://lft.vpn.aie.edu/ (For Lafayette Staff)

  2. You will be presented with a Sophos User portal, enter your AIE username and password, along with the characters showing in the Captcha:



  3. Once you have successfully logged in, you will see some options Under Sophos Connect Client, click 'Download for Windows'.
  4. This will start a download, once complete run the downloaded file.

    You may be prompted if you wish to continue, click "Yes".

  5. Once the installation application pops up, click “Next”, followed by “I Agree”, then “Install”.
  6. Once completed you will end up with Sophos Connect icon in your system tray in the bottom right of your screen:

    If you can see this, the VPN is installed.

  7. Next Under VPN configuration, click 'Download for Windows, macOS, Linux'
  8. Once downloaded go to its location and doubleclick it.


Connecting the VPN:

The VPN software will use your internet connection to make a tunnel to the AIE’s computer network, allowing your computer to see the network as it usually does in the office. The Speed of the VPN will be dependant on your internet connection speed.

  1. Locate the Sophos Connect icon in the task Tray in the bottom right of your screen:


  2. Double click on the Sophos Connect icon and then 'Connect'


  3. Sign in with an AIE staff or student username and password and tick 'Save username and password'
  4. Please wait for it to connect
          
    The VPN is now connected.


Disconnecting the VPN:

  1. Locate the Sophos Connect icon in the task Tray in the bottom right of your screen:


  2. Double click on the Sophos Connect icon and then 'Disconnect', You may now close the application.

    Seattle VPN

    In Seattle there are two VPN endpoints:

    • Harrison Street (Main Campus)
    • Mercer Street (Fame/Freedom Access)   Decommissioned
